Heat pumps and air conditioning on the Zürichberg – Kreis 7
On the Zürichberg and in Witikon there are many single-family and apartment buildings with gardens. When switching to a heat pump, a careful design and a quiet location for the outdoor unit are particularly important here.

Kreis 7: Fluntern, Hottingen, Hirslanden, Witikon
Kreis 7 comprises Fluntern, Hottingen, Hirslanden and Witikon. Witikon was incorporated in 1934 and is still characterised by residential neighbourhoods with single-family and terraced houses.
In quiet residential areas, every noise is noticeable. We therefore compare possible locations, take into account distances to neighbours’ windows and choose units with a low sound power level – before preparing the noise protection certificate.

Permits and noise protection in Kreis 7
For ground-source probes, a cantonal water protection permit is required in addition to the notification procedure; for air/water heat pumps, noise protection is the main focus.
In the Canton of Zurich, many air/water heat pumps can be installed under the notification procedure (placed indoors or outdoors up to 2 m³); in core zones and in areas with townscape or monument protection, outdoor units still require a permit. A noise protection certificate is always required for air/water heat pumps (Canton of Zurich). The City of Zurich accepts projects subject to notification via eBaugesucheZH; we compile the documents for you.

FAQ
Questions from the region
Air/water heat pump or ground-source probe?
That depends on the plot, drilling options and budget. We show you both options with their requirements.
How loud is an outdoor unit?
That depends on the unit and the distance. The noise protection certificate proves that the limit values are met at the neighbour’s property.
