In the canton of Zug, building applications are submitted to the municipality via the cymo ebau platform (Canton of Zug – submitting building applications). Air/water heat pumps – installed indoors or outdoors, including split units – generate outdoor noise and require a noise assessment with a 1:500 site plan (Canton of Zug – building application checklist).
New fixed electric heating is not permitted in principle; electric heating with a water distribution system may not be replaced by new resistance heating (§ 4a EnG-ZG). The law sets no deadline for replacing existing electric heating.
The canton of Zug energy subsidy programme 2026 supports air/water heat pumps up to 30 kWth with CHF 8,500 if they replace an oil, gas or electric heating system in an existing building. The application must be submitted before installation begins (Canton of Zug – energy subsidy programme).
